Our Story

The MCHS is located at historic Lane Place in Crawfordsville, IN. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the home of Sen. Henry S. and Joanna Lane features original furnishings, Civil War artifacts, and more! Also on our grounds is the Speed Cabin, a stop on the Underground Railroad.

We provide educational opportunities for all ages to learn about the local and national importance of Montgomery County. Visit us today!

Welcoming thousands of visitors and more than 20,000 during our summer Strawberry Festival weekend, the Montgomery County community, visitors to downtown Crawfordsville, former residents returning for a family event or class reunion, and school field trips, the Montgomery County Historical Society is an important part of tourism, education, and placemaking. Supporting our endowment will help ensure that the society will exist long into the future to preserve our collection and stories, to educate future generations, and to innovate the way we share history.
