Southeast Bedroom

This room was added before or around the turn of the century for Helen Elston Smith, the niece who came and lived with Joanna after Henry's death. She inherited the house from Mrs. Lane in 1914. After Mrs. Lane died, Helen moved into the Lanes' bedroom (southwest bedroom) and turned her old bedroom (south east bedroom) into a dressing room and the first modern bathroom in the home.

In this bedroom you'll see things like wallpaper on the ceiling, which was in fashion at the time, and 19th and early 20th century wedding dresses and period shoes that have been donated to the MCHS. The bedroom suite is a gift from the Turnipseed family; it depicts the Eastlake style of furniture.

Other items of interest:

* The wardrobe belonged to Col. Isaac Elston II (Joanna's brother).
* Carpet. Donated by the Turnipseed family.
