Book Discussion

The Girls of Murder City: Fame, Lust, and the Beautiful Killers who Inspired Chicago
The Montgomery County Historical Society is partnering with the Sugar Creek Players to host a Book Discussion of “The Girls of Murder City: Fame, Lust and the Beautiful Killers who Inspired Chicago”. The book was written by Douglas Perry about Maurine Watkins and how she left Crawfordsville, Ind. to work at the Chicago Tribune. She ended up covering sensational murder cases and was astounded at the verdicts of the all-male juries. Covering those murders eventually led to the penning of “Chicago”.
The Sugar Creek Players will end the 2011 Season at the Vanity Theatre with a production of “Chicago”. Show times for the production are August 5-7 and 12-14.
Mike Swift, the President of the Sugar Creek Players Board of Directors, said that the producer and actors have agreed to host an “Inside the Actors Studio” type evening that will follow the two book discussions. Copies of the book are available to purchase at Lane Place. Call 362-3416 for more information.
